Managing diabetes

in Diabetes

  1. Maintain good control of blood sugar, blood pressure and cholesterol.
  2. Visit your doctor every three months for check – up. When check up tests are to be carried out, include Hb A1c test.
  3. Take your prescribed medication regularly, without fail.
  4. Exercise and yoga – Benefits of these two forms are enormous. Exercise triggers release of endorphin chemical in the brain which makes the person exercising, calmer and happier. Yoga improves flexibility, walking and swimming improve stamina.
  5. Quit smoking.
  6. Do not get into depression.
  7. Be active, avoid sedentary life.
  8. Do not let your weight to increase.
  9. Sleep for 6 to 7 hours every night.
  10. Diet – Do not take fatty or fried food. Eating  whole fruits is better than fruit juice.
  11. Spread out your meals. If you take 3 meals a day, spread if out to 4 meals keeping the quantity same.
  12. Include greens and vegetables in your diet.
