Sushruta Samhita
It is said that Acharya Sushruta followed of Dhanwantari school of thought while writting ‘Sushruta Samhita’. This text predominantly deals with surgery and has sections and 186 chapters. Acharya Sushruta recommends that every medical student must be tanght both general medicine and surgercy. His text includes human anatomy, human body dissections, Anaesthesia, compound fracture treatment, special sections devoted to eyes, nose, ear and throat. He performed innovative cosmetic surgery, caserian, prosthetic surgery for replacing limbs etc. It is said that the he used a secret anaesthesia “Sammohini Vidya” for performing surgercy. He describes 101 types of blunt and 21 types of sharp surgical instruments. The modern surgical intruments used today are not very much different from what Acharya Sushruta had used.
